When things break down, we like to fix them.
The caregiver/physician relationship often needs a little extra help to ensure communication channels are open and working well, especially when an older adult is involved.
So where does the breakdown occur, and how can physicians and caregivers get better aligned when it comes to delivering care to an older adult?
The issue is often two-fold:
- Caregivers are exhausted from essentially working two jobs (their “real job” and caregiver responsibilities); and
- Physicians may not recognize the need to include caregivers in treatment plans.
